Lakeside in County Mayo

Lake light. Castle grounds.

The Lodge at Ashford Castle sits on the Ashford estate, just outside the village of Cong in County Mayo. These are photographs and films from weddings we’ve covered here, with the morning, the ceremony, the grounds and the long evening kept together.

It’s a place with a lot to explore. Lawns running down to Lough Corrib, woodland paths, old stone steps and a castle on the same estate. Summer or winter, rain or rainbows, there’s always somewhere beautiful a few minutes away.

We’ll make time for a walk together and the family photographs that matter. Then we’ll get you back to the people you came to celebrate with.

A classically styled house, originally built in 1865, on the Ashford Castle estate near Cong. Ceremonies on the front lawn overlooking Lough Corrib or in the Harbour Ballroom, with the castle and its woodland on the same estate.

A short wander. A castle next door.

Room to be yourselves.

Castle lawns, woodland paths, old stone steps and the shore of Lough Corrib. A little time together, then straight back into the day.

Your people

Everyone close. Nobody in a hurry.

A drink in the bar, a crowded dance floor and fireworks over the grounds.

From The Lodge to the castle grounds

Leave time to
wander.

The Lodge works best when the day has room to breathe. Tell us how you’d like the time after your ceremony to feel. Build in the congratulations, a drink with your guests and the family photographs, and we’ll help you fit those moments together before the day.

The lawn, the lakeshore, the woods and Ashford Castle are all close by, but you don’t need to fit every one into your portraits. If you’d like photographs at the castle, tell us early so we can plan the time around your day. For a winter wedding, we’ll make the most of the light while it lasts.

Planning your Lodge at Ashford wedding

A few useful things.

Have you photographed weddings at The Lodge at Ashford before?

Yes. Bokeh Photography & Film has photographed and filmed weddings at The Lodge at Ashford Castle, including Meghan & Aaron, Alanna & Jason, Brian & Dearbhla and Kaitlynn & Ryan, whose photographs and films are on this page.

Can we have photographs at Ashford Castle?

That’s at the discretion of the venue, so it’s best to ask The Lodge directly when you’re planning your day. Whatever they arrange, we’ll plan the timings with you so you’re not away from your guests for long.

Where do ceremonies usually happen at The Lodge?

Most couples we’ve photographed here have married on the front lawn looking out over Lough Corrib, or in the Harbour Ballroom. Some marry in a church nearby and come back to The Lodge for the reception. We photograph each of these the same way: quietly, following the ceremony and the people around you. Your venue coordinator can confirm the options for your date.

When is the light best for portraits?

In summer, the evening light over Lough Corrib is lovely, and we’ll often take a few minutes outside after dinner while it’s soft and low. In winter, the light goes early, so we plan portraits closer to the ceremony and make the most of the lawns, woodland and lake while there’s daylight. Inside, the big windows give us plenty to work with.

What if it rains?

We’ll keep working. Umbrellas, doorways, the bar and the big windows over the lake all give us options, and the weather around Lough Corrib can change quickly. One of our favourite photographs here has a rainbow in it.
